Spanish Colonial

In the 1920s many traditionally trained architects successfully designed in the Spanish Colonial style (which was considered an appropriate style for the more temperate and warmer parts of the United States, in particular, California).  The result was romantic buildings that supported a relaxed lifestyle.  But high design standards were always below the surface and the most successful buildings always have an underpinning of formality beneath the warm textures and flowing plans.
